Program Overview

We are excited to announce that we have planned to launch a 3-month Self-Defense Trainer’s course, offering 180 hours of rigorous training in collaboration with TEVTA and NACTA. This program is specifically designed to empower women from rural areas of Pakistan by providing them with comprehensive skills in Martial Arts and Self-Defense. Recognizing the unique challenges these women face, particularly in rural communities and poverty-stricken urban areas, this course is not only about teaching physical self-defense but also about equipping them with the social skills needed to navigate and protect themselves from everyday harassment. The socio-cultural attitudes prevalent in rural Pakistan often exacerbate the vulnerability of women, who face gender biases that limit their mobility and opportunities. In many cases, women are hesitant or even unable to leave their homes due to societal expectations and the threat of harassment or abuse. This reality severely impacts their ability to earn a livelihood or pursue personal independence. Our course is designed with these obstacles in mind, aiming to give women the tools they need to feel secure and confident in public spaces, workplaces, and their own communities.

Harassment and abuse in rural areas, as well as in poverty-stricken urban zones, present unique challenges. Women in these regions are often isolated, with little to no access to legal or social resources that could help protect them. Cultural norms may prevent them from speaking out about the harassment they face, further entrenching their vulnerability. Our course will focus not only on teaching self-defense techniques but also on upgrading their social awareness and ability to navigate these difficult environments. By enhancing their understanding of personal safety and social dynamics, we aim to empower these women to break through societal barriers, making it easier for them to step out of their homes and engage in the workforce or other public roles without fear.

The course structure will cover a wide range of skills, including risk identification, verbal de-escalation, and physical defense strategies tailored to real-world situations that women in rural areas are likely to face. Additionally, it will include psychological training to build mental resilience, helping these women maintain their confidence and composure in stressful situations. We aim to ensure that participants not only learn how to defend themselves but also gain the skills to teach others, thereby creating a ripple effect of empowerment within their communities.

Conclusion

By the end of 2024, we plan to officially register with our course with TEVTA and NACTA as a syllabus and trainer provider, which will allow us to integrate our program into the existing TEVTA institutions across all districts of Punjab. This partnership will enable us to reach a broader audience and ensure that self-defense training becomes more accessible to women in remote areas. We have already engaged with the Chairmen of TEVTA and WDD to lay the groundwork for this collaboration.

Our long-term vision is to create a safer environment for women in rural Pakistan, where they can live with the security and confidence needed to pursue their goals without fear of harassment or violence. Through this course, we aim to provide them with the tools to defend themselves and, more importantly, to claim their rightful place in society.
